Guitar stuff

I recently discovered Fender Custom Shop guitars - my favourite is an Olympic White 1960 Relic Strat, which mimics the guitar I've always thought was the mark of guitar heroes. Fender Custom Shop guitars are availble in three different types of 'aged' finish:

N.O.S. (New Old Stock)

The finish on these guitars is as if the guitar was bought in the respective year and brought forward to the present day. You get a guitar that's made to the highest standard the Custom Shop can achieve, and it arrives in pristine condition. I figure the people who would like this kind of Stratocaster are those who hanker after the fifties, sixties and seventies.

Closet Classic

Closet Classics are like New Old Stock guitars, but perhaps played a dozen times a year and then carefully put away. A few small 'dings', lightly checked finish, oxidized hardware and aged plastic parts. They have some character, and like all the Fender Custom Shop guitars have an epic sound.

Relic

Relic Strat Fingerboard

Custom Shop Relics show natural wear and tear from years of heavy use including nicks, scratches and rusty hardware!

This is my favourite finish for a Custom Shop strat because you can treat your guitar with abandon and if you give it more chips and dings to the paintwork it looks even better!

The idea that you'd pay more for someone to trash your guitar worries some people, but not me.

The thing I hate is when I trash an otherwise gorgeous guitar, and I can still remember the dings I gave my favourite guitars, turning them from shiny classics into busted up workhorses.
